Position options:

• Bottom Center: The most universally readable position for page numbers. Default and recommended.
• Bottom Right: Traditional document style, aligns with the right margin.
• Bottom Left: Suitable for right-to-left reading documents.
• Top Center / Top Right: Used in headers rather than footers.

The page number overlay is added using the same PDF content stream as the rest of the page, meaning it appears in all viewers and prints correctly. The font is embedded to ensure consistent appearance across platforms.

If you are preparing a professional report, consider also adding a text watermark such as "Draft" or "Confidential" in combination with page numbers. For a finalised document, you might want to protect the PDF to prevent further edits after numbering.
