Background Changer

The Background Changer automatically detects and removes the original background from your photo, then replaces it with your choice of solid color, gradient, or a new background image. Unlike simple chromakey tools that only work with solid colored backdrops, this tool uses AI-based subject detection to handle complex backgrounds including natural scenes, office environments, and busy street photography.

Common uses for the background changer include:

• Swapping casual photo backgrounds with professional white or gray for LinkedIn headshots
• Placing product photos onto white, transparent, or studio-style backgrounds for e-commerce
• Creating composite images by placing a subject in front of a different location or scenery
• Replacing distracting backgrounds in real estate interior photos
• Generating consistent background styles across a series of team headshots

The tool sends your image to a secure processing server where a convolutional neural network (CNN) trained on millions of human and object segmentation masks identifies the foreground subject. The model generates an alpha matte — a pixel-level probability map of foreground vs. background — and then composites your chosen replacement background behind the extracted subject. The result is returned to your browser and downloaded directly.

Input formats: JPG, PNG, WebP. Background options: solid color (any hex), gradient (two-color), or upload a custom background image (JPG or PNG). Output format: PNG (preserves subject edges and any semi-transparent areas). File size limit: 10 MB per image.

Images are sent to our processing server over HTTPS and are immediately deleted after the background replacement is complete — typically within 5–10 seconds. We do not store, analyze, or share your images. No account is required. For privacy-sensitive images, consider using the Background Remover instead if you only need the transparent cutout without a replacement background.
